CACHE to Launch New Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid

CACHE has been heavily involved in the collaborative work with many other awarding organisations to develop two new Level 3 Paediatric First Aid units:
  • Emergency Paediatric First Aid
  • Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries and Emergencies

These new units will form the basis of our new CACHE Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid, which will replace the current CACHE Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid. These new units will not be included as mandatory or optional units in any other existing or newly developed qualifications.

The decision to re-develop the current units and to award them at Level 3 has been made during extensive work with many awarding organisations. The new units will be available for you to view as soon as possible. We are sure you will note the differences and agree that the higher level, Level 3, is reflected in the responsibility level assigned to those who are qualified to practise Paediatric First Aid.

The following Level 2 Paediatric First Aid units are to be withdrawn on 31st August 2014:

• F/600/2036 Paediatric Emergency First Aid

• J/600/2037 Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury

A decision has been made that these units will be removed from the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF) England and will not be replaced. The units will also be withdrawn from the optional unit banks of the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas for Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Wales and Northern Ireland) (QCF) and the CACHE Level 3 Extended Diploma for Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Wales and Northern Ireland) (QCF). Your deadline for entering grades for these units is 31st August 2014.

Learners currently working towards their PFA units either within the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce or the CACHE Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid will need to have completed their units and their grades must be entered by 31st August 2014. There will be no opportunity to register learners or to enter grades after 31st August 2014.

We expect the new CACHE Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid to be available for registrations from 1st September 2014.
