Enhancing cognitive understanding to improve Fundamental Movement Skills

This is not a research paper – but a useful addition to the literature relating to skill acquisition. It examines the optimum way of introducing a physical skill and how the ‘follow-up’ may be made more productive and meaningful…..’When students are familiar with a concept and can draw upon prior knowledge, they show a willingness and desire to think, interpret, and generate learning, displaying both cognitive and affective learning.’ Although this approach may not seem immediately applicable to our work with very young children, it is essential to remain aware of a range of teaching methodologies.
